“My family?” Morpheus thought for a moment, head pressed against the wall as his abyss like eyes shut for a moment. Memories of his son filtered through his mind for a moment, the falling out the two had that left the Dream King torn on the inside. Perhaps this was a second chance to correct his actions.

His eyes opening, the twin stars that shone in either eye like the snake eyes on a dice, turned to Luna. A thin smile stretched across his features as he placed a kiss to her forehead. “They will take it well I am sure, many may not care at all.” It was almost expected by his siblings that such things were to befall Morpheus.

His smile was always strange to her. Luna knew that he meant it, but something about it almost felt forced, or perhaps it was a rarity. She leaned against his forehead, looking down at his chest and arms and hands. It was shocking to her that his own family wouldn’t care but she wasn’t close to her own family. She left that to his own doing. She would probably never meet any of them. 

Luna looked up at his eyes, for a moment. “Mmh.” was all she said and then she kissed him, full on the lips. 

Returning the kiss with a tender one, the small smile still held on his lips as the Dream King pulled away. A slender hand rose to brush through her hair, smooth it along her skull as he pushed it back. His face held a calm, rather serine look as the matter turned over in his head. Certainly there would be much planing to be taken care of— which could wait until Luna was in the Waking— and if he was to inform any of his siblings it would most certainly be Death, least she chew him out for not telling her.

“There is much to do, but I shall take care of it.” Another feathery kiss to her lips. “For now we must wait until the young one arrives.” Morpheus trailed his hand down to her flat stomach. Nothing there yet, he could get no visions of what it might be dreaming— it was far to underdeveloped for that— but it would not be long before the simple dreams of his unborn would be joining him here in the Dreaming.

Roni’s fingers began to drum against the skin of her stomach, mindlessly tapping out a beat that had no rhyme. A soft smile still hung on her lips as she  thought about the child, a quiet chuckle escaped as she continued to think about it.

“What if it was two of them? It is possible to have more than one at a time.” The only reason that the idea made her giggle was she could tell Destiny was worried about one child alone. So the concept of two was bound to scare the old man witless. “You’re going to have to teach them… I don’t know if they would be able to remain in the Waking…”

Destiny almost choked. “Them? Two? How can you be sure its two? You aren’t nearly far enough along to tell how many children…” He placed a hand on the back of his hood, flabbergasted. One, sure, he could manage well enough he thought. But two!?

That was unthinkable. “Lets…um…. focus on the task at hand, dear…” He didn’t want to say “I hope its just one.” because, well, he didn’t know for sure. 

“I’m not trying to tell, only thinking aloud dear.” The drumming against her stomach ceased, a weary smile at the Endless crossed the pale woman’s features. Reaching over she wrapped her arms around the starch like robes of the man, pressing her face into his chest as she inhaled the scent she had so come to admire.

The unmistakeable smell of old books, crisp to the touch and bound to hold the mysteries of the world. That was the smell of the Endless that left no footprints in his wake. “After they are born you will no longer be alone while I am awake. But what is the first task at hand, oh wise one?” Her voice muffled, her face still firmly pressed against the other’s chest. But a voice lingered at the depths of her mind, echoing to her thoughts she didn’t wish to hear or know. Her children would long out live her and so would Destiny. They were truly Endless.

“The first task and,” Destiny took her hand. He felt, strangely at ease. Sunset came and went like twitching eyelids in his garden. But the dying sun seemed slower as so did sunrise. A change of season was at hand. “Is waiting.” he finished. He liked how she felt against his chest. It was usually so hollow feeling. So much in fact that sometimes he had forgotten, in his darkest of hours, of his own heart beating. But he felt it patter now, and proudly, too.  ”It has to get here first before we can make further plans, I’m afraid.” he rubbed one finger around in circles on her stomach. A vision came to him of two hearts beating. 

She could feel his bony finger trace along her stomach, which only had the trace of a bump from the weight that was already there. The smooth circles were enough to calm any nerves that were left unattended to. So simple was the action but so relaxing. But Destiny abruptly ceased, the finger against her skin twitching lightly as though shocked by something.

Pulling her face away from his chest, head tilted as she stared at him wondering.

“Something wrong, Destiny?” Peering underneath his hood she could see that his features had gone pale— paler than they were rather. Was it a vision he had seen? Was some terrible fate meant to befall her child? Knots began to form in her stomach, tightening at the thought— even before meeting the entity she would have never doubted anything he would say to be true. “Destiny what’s wrong?” Her voice strained with worry, oh how troubling it could be loving one who knew the fate of all.

Dream stared at Luna’s flat stomach, mentally visualizing it growing larger as the months went by. Then suddenly he looked up at her, his eyes filled with sorrow as they always seemed to be. “Are you happy?”

“That doesn’t seem too long.” Although she knew she was lying. Luna was trying to say that more for his sake, but it was probably in vain. “Am I happy?” She cupped his face in her hands for a moment, then let go. It hurt to look at him just now but she did anyway. “I didn’t really want kids this young but… yes. I’m happy.” She ran a hand through her hair and continued to look down at her stomach. 

Dream looked away from Luna, as usually the brooding Endless felt it was his doing entirely.

“I am sorry for this.” He shook his head, the ever bi-polar being stared down the on-going rows of books. Hoping one would fly off the shelf and distract him, though the odds of that were extremely unlikely. “You know it is still ultimately your dissension, if you wish not to have it I will say no more.”

He leaned his back lightly against the shelf behind him, his gaze still cast away from Luna. “Though as long as you are happy I am happy.” Dream slowly turned his head to look back down at the girl, the soft smile returning to his face.

“No it’s… I mean, stuff happens.” Her smile was a little broken. She’d to her best to be a mother, a good one, too. But there was always the doubt that plagued her with everything she did in her life. The What If’s. She sighed heavily and slid down the row of books again unto the floor. 

“I’m happy but, I’m scared, too… how is your family gonna’ handle this?”

Roni understood that he meant he observed the weddings from his tome. Yet perhaps it was just her mind playing tricks on her; but all she could picture was Destiny watching those wedding shows on the TLC channel. The thought made her start giggling uncontrollably. 

Her fits of laughter ceased when he spoke up again, this time about the baby. She glanced down at her stomach, as though she could see through the layers of flesh and tell what it would be.

“I hope it’s a boy, but that’s just me. What about you?”

Destiny was confused by her laughter for a moment. “The gender does not matter to me, as long as it is happy and healthy, it will be a good child.” He hoped he didn’t sound so ominous, as he was so used to doing. In fact, he was getting used to the sound of his own voice. He hardly ever spoke until she came. Destiny started to wonder what his child would sound like… 

And then he sighed at the fact that he or she would have to meet all of his siblings eventually, as it went on with it’s life.

“I’ll do it.” Luna was completely serious. Nothing else mattered to her now. She had to be with her child, their child. “I don’t need to go back to the other side… I don’t.” She was going in and out of coheriency as fear and doubt took over. 

“The child will be okay right? I won’t hurt it when I wake up…?” 

“Luna, that is ridiculous. I know you may not think so but you have a future in the Waking. There are only dreams here.” Shaking his head Morpheus was not about to let her settle on something like that. Though within his heart he could feel that she would settle for nothing less than that. Running his the palms of his hands across his face he turned away from Luna for a brief moment. “Yes the child should be fine when you awake. Though you may feel pains during your time in the Waking I shall follow you keeping close watch should anything happen.”

  Morpheus turned back to face her. His eyes did not shine as they usually did and his skin seemed more ashen than normal. Yet the smile that broke out onto his face tried telling her that he was fine with the idea. What a lie dreams could be.

“What if I don’t want a future?” she asked and bit her lip. Her hands rested on her stomach. “I don’t even know if I want a kid but I’m gonna go through it anyway because what else can I do?” 

“If i could just stay with you, It would be okay. but I can’t. So it won’t be okay.” Her mood was changing. “So I might as well just get rid of the..the…thing before its too late…” Luna slammed her head against a bookshelf and the sound echoed off in the hallways. 

Dream glared down at Luna, he could feel his blood begin to boil under his skin. He did not mind humans but even he knew that often times they gave up far to easily.

“So you will pass it off just like that then?” Dream turned away from her, his cloak flowing out around him like tresses of dark fire. He chewed on his lip an answer had come to him but he did not know its full outcome. Though it would be better than this. “There is a way for your physical form to remain in the Dreaming. However I have not preformed this method myself yet I have seen it done.”

Dream turned back around to look down at Luna. “Though ultimately it is your decision, we both know this.”

“No! No… I didn’t mean it like that… I just… hate the thought of spending hours, practically entire days away from our child. I’ll do what it takes to stay here.” Luna stood up. She wanted to run and cling to him, to prove how much she loved him but she remained still, leaning against a row of books. 

“Do what you have to. I don’t care how its done.” 

Dream smiled down at the girl as he held out a slender hand to help her to her feet.

“I will need some time to look into it.” He placed a gentle kiss upon her cheek, trying to cover up his brash behavior from the moment before. “So until I find an answer, rest. It will do both you and the child much good.” Dream took Luna’s face into his hand and stroked his thumb across her cheek. How frail she seemed to him, how innocent and yet so full of life and dreams. Perhaps it was for this reason he found himself so attracted to humans in general.

Luna couldn’t help but smile. She took his free hand and placed it on her stomach. She gave a small yawn “You think its a boy or a girl?” She rested a hand on top of his, the two of them touching her stomach now. She breathed slowly and gently, afraid she would hurt it if she quickened, even though Luna knew that it wasn’t possible yet. 

“Hm. Perhaps it will be a girl.” Dream began tracing small circles on her stomach with the side of his thumb. “Though it does not matter what gender it be. So long as it is ours, that is all that truly matters.” He rested his forehead against the top of Luna’s head. Burying his nose into her soft fluffy hair, he tried to engulf her scent. His thumb still absently traced patterns out along her abdomen. 

“Should it be a girl, what do you wish to name it?” His voice was just above a whisper, yet even still in the empty library it echoed out into eternity. Dream thought about the idea of having a daughter. He thought it to be fitting, after all he had already had one son. Though the events were not pleasant to recall he had a son none the less, perhaps it was hope of change. Was that the reason he secretly longed for a girl?

She blushed. “Mond.” Luna whispered. “It means moon.” She kissed his nose then looked down at her stomach. “I hope I’ll be a good mother.” Luna wondered when she would start to feel it move, and communicate. Or when she would start feeling the sickness and the morning pains she had always heard about with pregnancy.

Roni glanced up at the elder, a small spark of hope glimpsed in her eyes. Words like that were things she had only ever hoped to hear in stories and on TV. To actually hear them herself was a certain way of knowing that she was dreaming. She pulled her chin out from the crevasse between her knees, barely managing a smile at Destiny as his chains rattled in the low wind. 

“Oh yeah? Well I might be persuaded by desperate attempts if you share them with me.” Oh how she was a sucker for sappy things, the girl knew it to though felt to vain to ever go boldly admitting such a thing to people. 

He smiled. She was very sweet to him just there. “You will be a good mother…” he said softly. Destiny’s tone brightened for once… 

“It is custom, I believe for a wedding to take place is it not?” His face went red at  the thought. How would his siblings react? Of course Desire would be there as well. Oh, how he loathed and at the same time loved the idea. 

“A wedding?” She didn’t know what to think, of course she felt excited about the thought of anyone having such an amount of interest in her. Yet the demon known as logic pulled at her mind trying to coax the girl away from the idea.

“I would love the sound of that…” She rested her head against his shoulder. “But could we have a private one? I’ve never liked the idea of extravagant weddings with a crap-ton of people…”  For one of the few times in her life she decided against logic. With Destiny she felt as though everything was already planned out and nothing would truly be a surprise. That alone was enough to comfort her away from the logic of being separated from him during the day.

Destiny patted the girls head affectionately. “Well yes, I mean, it is typically the brides day. So you may do as you wish.” He was happy. The sun was setting and for once he actually noticed how beautiful it was in his garden. 

Suddenly he sat up straight, and groaned. “You’ll have to deal with my siblings…” He rubbed his eyes. This wasn’t going to be easy to explain. 

“That shouldn’t be to hard.” Though judging by Destiny’s expression it was indeed going to be that difficult. Roni began to rub the back of her neck not certain what to say, yes she has had sibling trouble growing up but that was long ago and she never concerned herself with it afterwards. “I suppose if they make you uncomfortable they don’t have to come. It could just be the two of us.”

The young woman glanced up at the stone statues that towered over the two of them. Each formed into the figures of, what she assumed, to be the other Endless. Amusingly enough she found herself resting at the foot of the statue of Destiny. She thought to herself how it was carved into his likeness, though of all the Endless how is always seemed to remain the same.

“Forgive me. I am being selfish. It is your day. Not mine. If you wish them, or anyone to be there, they will. Or if none at all then there will be none at all.” He shrugged it off, trying to act indifferent on the subject of his family… but it was a lost cause. 

Desire would laugh and “I told you so!”. Delirium would probably make a mess… Despair… well, who knows? Dream would smile, slightly, but it would be sad, much too sad for a wedding, Death would be the only one who didn’t judge, who was truly happy for them. And… well… he hated to admit this but he hoped Destruction would come, just to see his long lost brother would be happiness. Although, he concluded, it would perhaps be better if he didn’t. 

She gave an absentminded shrug about the situation.

“Yeah but you’re apart of it to. Unless I’m marrying myself. Which I am all for by the way, then I could just spend my entire honeymoon playing video games and masturbating.” She gave a laugh but the sound was broken and disconnected as though it was almost forced. “But they’re your family, not mine, I’ll leave that up to you.”

Her hand trailed down to her stomach as she began to rub it subconsciously. Perhaps it was an act for her own comfort, there was no way that the child was developed enough to feel it’s mothers motions. If it was she tried not thinking about it, her sarcasm and dark humor were the only things that were keeping the young woman level headed at the moment.

“No. But I’ve seen many a wedding in these pages. And I have gathered from that it is the brides affair.” He didn’t mean to sound like such a know-it-all but…. all he did was read, until she came along. 

“What do you think the child will be?” he asked, softly. Destiny looked down at her stomach.

That alone was enough to comfort her away from the logic of being separated from him during the day.

Destiny patted the girls head affectionately. “Well yes, I mean, it is typically the brides day. So you may do as you wish.” He was happy. The sun was setting and for once he actually noticed how beautiful it was in his garden. 

Suddenly he sat up straight, and groaned. “You’ll have to deal with my siblings…” He rubbed his eyes. This wasn’t going to be easy to explain. 

“That shouldn’t be to hard.” Though judging by Destiny’s expression it was indeed going to be that difficult. Roni began to rub the back of her neck not certain what to say, yes she has had sibling trouble growing up but that was long ago and she never concerned herself with it afterwards. “I suppose if they make you uncomfortable they don’t have to come. It could just be the two of us.”

The young woman glanced up at the stone statues that towered over the two of them. Each formed into the figures of, what she assumed, to be the other Endless. Amusingly enough she found herself resting at the foot of the statue of Destiny. She thought to herself how it was carved into his likeness, though of all the Endless how is always seemed to remain the same.

“Forgive me. I am being selfish. It is your day. Not mine. If you wish them, or anyone to be there, they will. Or if none at all then there will be none at all.” He shrugged it off, trying to act indifferent on the subject of his family… but it was a lost cause. 

Desire would laugh and “I told you so!”. Delirium would probably make a mess… Despair… well, who knows? Dream would smile, slightly, but it would be sad, much too sad for a wedding, Death would be the only one who didn’t judge, who was truly happy for them. And… well… he hated to admit this but he hoped Destruction would come, just to see his long lost brother would be happiness. Although, he concluded, it would perhaps be better if he didn’t. 

She gave an absentminded shrug about the situation.

“Yeah but you’re apart of it to. Unless I’m marrying myself. Which I am all for by the way, then I could just spend my entire honeymoon playing video games and masturbating.” She gave a laugh but the sound was broken and disconnected as though it was almost forced. “But they’re your family, not mine, I’ll leave that up to you.”

Her hand trailed down to her stomach as she began to rub it subconsciously. Perhaps it was an act for her own comfort, there was no way that the child was developed enough to feel it’s mothers motions. If it was she tried not thinking about it, her sarcasm and dark humor were the only things that were keeping the young woman level headed at the moment.
